Tandem Policies
Attendance
Attendance is vital for successful learning of training techniques. If you need to miss a class and are able to notify us via email or phone, we would appreciate it so we can plan accordingly. If you are unable to attend the first session of a beginners class (Puppy I, Basic Manners, or Basic Manneres for Toy Dogs) you will need to enroll in a different class. The first session of each beginner class is mandatory. If you miss more than two sessions in any class, although you are welcome to continue to attend, you will be ineligible for class graduation.
Children in class
Tandem encourages you to bring the entire family to class to learn easy and more consistent ways to communicate with your dog. Children under five should have a second adult present that can concentrate on them as needed. The main handler/trainer should be at least 10 years old. It is not uncommon for children to get bored during parts of class, so you may want to bring quiet toys or books for their entertainment.
Class Cancellations
If classes are canceled due to inclement weather, your instructor will attempt to contact you via email or phone and we will leave a message on the training center phone regarding any cancellations. We will attempt to find a date and time to complete a make-up class for any weather-related cancellations.
If fewer than four dogs are enrolled in any class, Tandem reserves the right to cancel the class. In this event your payment would be completely refunded or applied to another class of your choice.
Clean up
All owners must clean up after their dogs when on the premises of the training facilities. Baggies and a garbage can will be provided.
Dogs in heat
Female dogs in heat are not allowed in the building or on the training grounds. Owners may request a transfer to the next available class at no charge.
NSF fee
Payments made with an insufficient check will incur a $25.00 fee, and will not be given a refund of any kind.
On leash
We ask that all dogs be kept on leash when on Tandem property unless in a secure fenced area or during designated class playtime.
Refunds
Once you have registered for a Tandem class, the following refund policy applies:
- Cancellations seven calendar days or earlier from the class start date will result in a 100% refund of any deposit or payment.
- Cancellations fewer than seven calendar days from the class start date will result in a 50% refund of your payment in the form of a credit towards the use of other Tandem training services. There will be no cash refunds for cancellations fewer than seven calendar days from the start date.
- For cancellations received after the class start date: Tandem will refund 25% of your payment in the form of credit towards the use of other Tandem training services. There are no cash refunds for cancellations after the class start date.
Vaccination
All dogs enrolled in Tandem classes must be current on distemper/parvo, rabies and bordetella vaccines. This is for the safety of all dogs and puppies and is not optional. If, for a medical reason, you do not keep your dog's vaccines current, you can substitute a current (within one year) vaccine titer test from your veterinarian. Bordetella, commonly known as kennel cough, has had several recent severe outbreaks in our community. If local veterinarians begin to see less of this problem, we may at some point make this vaccine optional, but it is required at this point.
